Future Medium have worked on a number of projects for The TOTE.
The most prominent of which are the event sites for the
> Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival and the > Inter Dominion Carnival.
Design Considerations
Designing and planning for event sites poses some unusual questions. The sites are typically viewed in a 'peak season' fashion, and are rather heavily updated and altered throughout the event dates. The sites have both been produced to allow sufficiently dynamic appearance in off-season times but spring to life with triggers within the CMS environment to override the presentation of certain pieces of content. Thus ensuring the site can be as dynamic and responsive to the topic as possible without requiring large developer overheads, alteration, or monitoring.
Sponsor Management
As event sites each contains special sponsor handling methods which once again are driven from within the CMS product. Rules may be set for how often a sponsor logo will appear (i.e. a percentage or fraction of the total web time) and on which pages it will be considered for presentation. Using these rules sponsors are guaranteed a mathematical distribution across the site in predetermined presentation locations. Major sponsors are given special treatment and are individually hand worked into the site design such that their involvement is appropriately noted.
Multiple Content Editors
Event sites involve a number of content editors and contributors. In the case of these two TOTE Tasmania projects Future Medium has been involved on an ongoing basis to support and train relevant content editors. In the case of the Inter Dominion site group training sessions were conducted so that multiple contributors could work on the site at once.
Statistical Review
The site is reviewed with statistical data to ensure correct visitors are viewing the necessary pages, and that there is sufficient response to traditional off-line advertisements.
