A standard Future Medium design goal is to create systems that are as easy to use as possible.  This is achieved by a combination of navigation and design elements that focus the user on the important information, and a 'task-oriented' structure which provides the user with the tools they need to complete a given task, while still giving the flexibility to move freely around the systems we design.

A consistent and identifiable interface invites users to interact freely with the application, with confidence gained from recognition and pattern setting. Ultimately a user-focussed design provides an application with the ability to connect with a user, increasing user satisfaction and adding value to the application.
