Intelligent Interface Technologies

As more and more complex applications become available on the web, the ability to provide responsive and intuitive user interfaces becomes paramount.

Future Medium are positioned to provide these interfaces by combining high-level functional design elements with the latest advances in web technology.

The key elements are:

  • Working with the functional specification to determine the different tasks/actions that the user may want to perform using the system
  • Prioritising these actions to determine which are the most common
  • Developing a wireframe user interface layout with rapid and obvious access to frequently used functions, and basic layouts of all user interface components
  • Based on client and customer feedback, updating wireframes until satisfied and then producing finished pixel artwork
  • Turning this artwork into an application using the chosen presentation technology

There are two main technological paths to developing the functional user interface in the context of a web-browser:

  1. Web-based - Utilising standards-compliant XHTML, JavaScript, XML and server-side technology, this utilises the built-in capabilities of your web-browser to display rich web pages which operate either in the traditional linear sequence of request/response or asynchronously via direct calls to the server using AJAX or similar
  2. Rich Internet Application - Rather than using XHTML as the primary presentation technology, this utilises Macromedia Flash or Java Applets to deliver an experience even closer to a traditional desktop application. These technologies provide a richer array of form elements for example and are even more compatible across different browsers and platforms

Future Medium are experts in all these technologies and are able to advise which ones are most suited to your audience and budgetry requirements.
