The Challenge
Betfair approached us to develop a system to replace the paper-based Performance and Development (PAD) review system for employees. Previously, employees had to fill in a form which was then passed to their manager to add their comments after which they would review the result together. Other parts of the form were used to enter ratings and calculate bonus percentages, all of which needed to be done by hand.
The Solution
We developed a system that tightly integrated with their existing Active Directory to obtain staff details including position and department. Some items needed to be maintained within the PAD system itself but logic was used to match things between the two systems automatically where possible.
Users used their existing AD login credentials to access the PAD system.
HR staff are able to trigger the review process and select groups of users or departments. The initial welcome page for managers and HR staff list those staff whose reviews have not yet been completed, with various options for filtering by status or departments.
Managers are able to define their own KPIs for each review, and KPIs are stored away for easy access in subsequent reviews.
The actual entry form is defined in XML to allow Betfair to make changes themselves to the questions and descriptive text.
The data entry screen automatically calculates ratings as users make changes, and after the review of the completed form by manager and staff member any subsequent field-level modifications are highlighted so each participant can quickly see them and accept the review once all parties are happy.
Email notifications keep people informed of the process and a PDF export facility is available for off-line viewing of the form.
